The “Cantieri Smart” system is an intelligent platform designed for construction site monitoring, created to address workplace safety needs.

The project aims to develop a system capable of detecting the presence of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) worn by workers on construction sites and ensuring that the appropriate personnel are present in designated work areas.

The technological solution involves an integrated system composed of a computer vision subsystem using cameras that process images in real time without recording them, applying Deep Learning models. These processes are designed to signal any absence of PPE for the personnel working in the monitored areas. The presence of personnel is detected by combining both image analysis (e.g., counting the number of people in the monitored area) and information from a geolocation subsystem that enables geo-fencing within the area of interest.

The system relies on wearable devices (tags) that track personnel within the area. If any discrepancies arise between the personnel present in the area and those detected via the tags, an IoT gateway alerts a remote IoT platform, which transmits warnings and alarms (e.g., via email or Telegram). Additionally, the platform allows real-time data visualization (e.g., graphs and tables displaying summary information on the monitored area’s status).

The platform is accessible to authorized personnel (e.g., safety managers).
